Last year, Anna directed the first British showing of the award winning musical, The Secret Garden by Marsha Norman and Lucy Simon for Mervishes Production and Great Leap Forward. The show opened at the Edinburgh Festival Theatre in December 2010 and then toured to the Royal Alexandra Theatre, Toronto.
Previous directing work includes: James & the Giant Peach, The Watermill Theatre The Snow Queen, Sherman Theatre, Cardiff, Billy Liar for the Ambassadors Theatre Group for a UK number one Tour, starring Ralf Little, a UK tour remount of Spend, Spend, Spend starring Barbara Dickson, a Noises Off re-mount on Broadway (Brooks Atkinson Theater).
Anna is the Associate director on The Sound of Music and directed the hugely successful North American premiere of the show at the Prince of Wales Theatre, Toronto, Canada. This year she was the associate director on The Sound of Music UK Tour with Jeremy Sams for David Ian / RUG.
Anna’s relationship with Jeremy Sams is longstanding and she was the Associate Director on The Sound of Music at the London Palladium as well as, Little Britain – Live!, Noises Off (Royal National Theatre/West End/Broadway), Benefactors (Albery, West End), and Spend Spend Spend (Piccadilly, West End). She was also his Associate Director on the recent production of, The King and I, at the Royal Albert Hall this June.
From 2006 to 2007 Anna was Associate Artistic Director of The Tricycle Theatre in London.
Also as Director: Tennessee Williams Short Plays (Cockpit), Brilliant Lies (Rosemary Branch UK premiere), I Confess (site-specific new writing) Our Country’s Good (guest director Rose Bruford Drama School).
As Artistic Director of Dogstar Theatre Company: Bruises and The Good Times Will Come.
As Staff Director at The Royal National Theatre: Noises Off and The Heiress.
As Associate: See You Next Tuesday (Albery, West End), and as Assistant: Suddenly Last Summer (Donmar Warehouse).
Anna has translated two plays for The Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh and recently adapted a five-part series for Woman’s Hour, BBC Radio 4. She is fluent in French and Spanish and is currently writing a musical for children based on the popular novel Harry & The Wrinklies by Alan Temperley as well as an adaptation of Edith Wharton’s novel The Custom of the Country.
