Alia won the Charles Wintour Award in 2009 for Most Promising Playwright at the Evening Standard Awards for her play SHADES, which ran at the Royal Court that year, directed by Nina Raine. She also won the Critics’ Circle Theatre Award 2009 for Most Promising Playwright.
Alia recently contributed to the writers’ room of Ayub Khan Din’s new series THE ABC for The Forge/Channel 4.
She wrote an episode of the upcoming children’s series JAMILLAH AND ALADDIN for Kindle Entertainment/CBBC.
Alia was selected for THE BIG ROOM last year, run by Paines Plough and Origin Pictures in collaboration with BBC Films.
Alia’s short play, THE JOB, ran at the Pleasance Courtyard in Edinburgh in 2013 as part of Theatre503’s XY series.
Her play HENS was commissioned by SkyArts for Sandi Toksvig’s Theatre: Live! season and transmitted live on SkyArts2 in June 2010, directed by Peter Gill at the Riverside Studios.
Alia’s play GAP was commissioned by the Royal National Theatre for their Connections 2011 season.
Alia was part of the Royal Court Writers’ Super Group and Soho Theatre Core Writing Group and was on attachment to Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
