Alia Bano agent: Fay Davies
Alia was born in Birmingham, she read English at the University of London and is a qualified teacher. She lives in London.
Recently Alia won the Charles Wintour award for most promising playwright at the Evening Standard Awards for her play SHADES as well as the Critics’ Circle Theatre Award for most promising playwright.
Her most recent play HENS was commissioned by SkyArts for Sandi Toksvig’s Theatre: Live! season, directed by Peter Gill at the Riverside Studios in June it was also transmitted Live on SkyArts2.
Alia is currently under commission to The Royal Court, The Royal National Theatre - for their ‘Connections’ season.
Alia is a founding member of the Jewish/Muslim Theatre Group at the Tricycle Theatre and is currently under commission to The Royal Court. She is on attachment to the Birmingham Repertory Theatre and last year the Royal National Theatre Studio.
Alia is currently adapting SHADES for a feature film with Poisson Rouge Pictures.
